Please find details below of the Club tennis matches played and recorded since last Thursday: –
Portsmouth & District Winter League
Ladies Division 1 – Avenue 1 winning draw v Lee 1 (2-2) – Anna Newman, Viola Masona, Vicki White, Gill Clarke
Ladies Division 4 – Avenue 4 losing draw v Lee 3 (2-2) – Sheila Drummond, Heulwen Newman, Chloe Treagust, Linda Barber
Match report
In our penultimate match of this winter season, our team gave a very good account of themselves against a strong Lee3 squad. Both pairs were up against it dealing with the visitors’ strong and experienced 1st pair, but against their 2nd pair our players dug deep & showed resilience and, at times, tenacious play to win both rubbers – even breaking our Avenue “curse “ & winning tiebreaks!
One game to come against division leaders, Alverstoke. Already we have bettered our performance of last winter. Sheila Drummond
Mens Division 1 – Avenue 1 lost to CourtX (1-3) – James Rosenthal, Lloyd Sampson, James Leonard, Matt Lee
Ladies Masters Division 2 – Avenue 2 lost to CourtX 1 (1-3) – Sarah Long, Anne Treagust, Heulwen Newman, Katherine Arnold
Match report
Last Winter League match today. Unfortunately CourtX were too strong, fielding a 1st team player and beating us 3-1 in rubbers, 6-2 in sets and 41-19 in games. Nevertheless, well played team. Jenny Ward
Mens Masters Division 1 – Avenue 1 losing draw v Warsash (2-2) – Ian Marks, Phil Broad, George Bentley, Paul Whittenham
Match report
A hard fought battle in very windy conditions. We won 2 of the 3 Championship tie-break deciders but not quite enough to get us over the line. Warsash were excellent hosts and on reflection deserved the winning draw. A big thank you to Ian for captaining and organising the squad again this season. Paul Whittenham
Mixed Masters Division 2 – Avenue 2 lost to Wellow (1-3) – Mark Fullstone, Anne Treagust, Matt Bennett, Louise Charlton
Match report
A loss today by 3-1 in rubbers, 7-2 in sets and 45-25 in games against a strong team. At least we got to finish the match despite the wind. Mark Fullstone
East Hants Winter League
Mens Division 4 – Avenue B drew with Fernhurst C (4-4) – Stew Wiles, Stuart Newman, Dennis Greenwood, Jamie Newman
Match report
Hard fought draw 4 sets each but consolation in winning more games. Missed opportunities in 3 of the sets we lost to come away with the win. Stew Wiles
Veterans Division 2 – Avenue drew with Haslemere B (4-4) – Rob Mort, Sally Barwood, Matt Bennett, Michele Voysey

Match between the bottom 2 teams played in the fog until 12 noon. Rob Mort
