Match report

On a drab and dreary day where all 3 Avenue Mens teams were scheduled to play but with no one from the Mens 2 squad available, it looked very much like a match concession would be the only option. However, there followed a tremendous effort to find 4 players, none of whom with previous Mens 2 match play experience but who showed a willingness to travel to the Island and fulfil the fixture, thus avoiding the deduction of a league point. The result was perhaps inevitable given the standard of the opposition but there were plenty of positives to take from the match followed by an enjoyable match tea provided by an extremely hospitable Ryde Mead side who very much appreciated our efforts in getting a side together. The experience was a joy for all 4 Avenue men on a day out that very nearly didn’t happen. A big thank you to Lloyd Sampson for presenting us with the opportunity to play at a higher level and to my fellow team mates on the day, Ian, David P. and Ant for making it such an enjoyable outing. Paul Whittenham
