It’s back. The summer singles box league will start again on May 1 and run until June 30.
Most previous competitors (men and ladies) from the last league will be automatically entered unless they opt out. The only exception will be those players who played none or only 1 or 2 games.
They won’t be included unless they opt in and make appropriate efforts to play their games. It is not fair on their opponents if they don’t.
This will be the first of two we run this year. The second will start after the summer knockout tournaments end in September. New players are welcome and indeed encouraged to take part.
Divisions, based on ability levels, will again comprise roughly six or seven players with new people included and previous players rejigged where necessary.
Each player will receive one point for playing each game (to reward playing), winning players will receive three points while losing players will pick up one point if they win a set. No walkovers will be recorded.
Players will play each other once each, so around five or six matches in total. They can be organized in any order but please organize them as earlier rather than later to account for injuries and bad weather.
The default match format will be best of three normal sets with a tie-break at 6-6. However, to make things as flexible as possible and if both players agree, matches can be two normal sets followed by a third set consisting of a long tie-break up to 10. Alternatively players may also agree a shorter set format – first to four – best of three sets should they wish.
