Ladies Masters Division 2 – Avenue 2 losing draw v Wickham (2-2) – Denise Simper, Sarah Long, Anne Treagust, Linda Barber

Match report

Yet another very tight match against Wickham yesterday. Denise/Sarah & Anne/Linda B made a great  effort especially against very canny players and hard courts   2 rubbers all,  5 sets to 4 and 38 games to 35 in favour of Wickham. Mixed Masters Division 1 – Avenue 1 lost to Ryde Lawn 1 (0-4) – Helen Weekes, Peter Campbell, Liz Lim, George Bentley

Match report

Despite the grass courts being closed, we managed to play. Rain did stop play for 30 minutes. Not a great result.  Lost all 4 rubbers, but 3 of them went to tie breaks. Due to the weather we also ran over time, but Head Coach Ashley was great at allowing us to continue on the clay courts. Helen Weekes

Mens O55s Division 1 – Avenue A lost to Winchester A (0-4) –  Peter Campbell, Colin Airton, Phil Broad, George Bentley

East Hants Summer League

Ladies Division 2 – Avenue drew with Steep B (4-4) – Caron Howe, Dawn Wears, Denise Simper, Katherine Arnold

Match report

We had a very good match against Steep B with the closest ever result, 4 sets all,  36 games to 37 in favour of Steep.  Yet again we were playing in very dark conditions. I did ask Steep to start at 6pm but alas they could not.  A most enjoyable game by all. Jenny Ward

LTA National League – Regional Mens Open

South West (East Division)  – Avenue beat Riverside (4-2) – James Rosenthal, David Moakes, Tom Dow, Lloyd Sampson

Match report

With everything to play for in this final league fixture, Avenue pulled off a clutch 4-2 win over Riverside — a victory that secures their place in the division and avoids relegation. It was a day filled with grit, laughs, cramps, and the kind of tennis that only Avenue can deliver.

🎾 Singles Matches

James Rosenthal vs. Michael Barry

Score: 6-4, 6-2

James “Content King” Rosenthal — more used to reviewing films on his YouTube channel @RosenthalReviews than serving aces — showed he means business after recently quitting his job to focus on coaching. He cruised through his match with clean hitting and purposeful play, proving once again that sometimes, YouTubers can have great footwork.

Tom Dow vs. Sam Harris

Score: 6-1, 6-3

Tom brought calm, cool dominance to the court with a textbook performance. His tactical play and clinical finishing made light work of his opponent. Solid as ever.

David Moakes vs. Jake Russell

Score: 7-6, 4-6, 6-4

David battled through three long sets with huge heart — but not without drama. Just before doubles warm-up, he cramped up, much to everyone’s concern. The cause? Allegedly not eating enough Haribo (he says he’s learned his lesson). Nonetheless, his singles win was heroic.

Lloyd Sampson vs. Jamie Barry

Score: 0-6, 1-6

Okay, let’s be honest — the scoreboard wasn’t kind. But if passion, volume, and volleys were part of the scoring system, Lloyd would have won in straight sets. He left it all out there and still had the lungs to yell “COME ON!!” with enough force to startle spectators and energize teammates. His commitment never wavered.

👫 Doubles Matches

James & David vs. Mike & Jamie

Score: 3-6, 6-3, 8-10 (Loss)

James and a now slightly-stiff-legged David fought back well after losing the first set, showing grit to force a match tiebreak. Despite their best efforts, the Riverside pair took it in the decider.

Tom & Lloyd vs. Sam & Jake

Score: 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 (Win)

Here’s where the magic happened. With the match score tight and relegation looming, Tom and Lloyd delivered a stunning doubles win. Lloyd, now fully recharged, produced sharp volleys, huge energy, and of course, more signature “COME ON!!” shouts than anyone could count. The duo dominated the deciding tiebreak, sealing the overall win — and Avenue’s survival in the league.

Man of the Match: Lloyd Sampson

Sure, he didn’t win his singles. But Lloyd’s electric doubles performance, booming volleys, and hilarious motivational yells lifted the whole team. He played with heart, humour, and a whole lot of decibels — exactly the spirit that kept Avenue in the division.

🎉 Fun Fact Round-up: Lloyd’s volleys? His volume? 🔊 Legendary. David now officially carries emergency Haribo in his tennis bag. James might become the first tennis coach to give backhand tutorials and film reviews on YouTube.

Outcome: Avenue AVOID RELEGATION 🎉 The lads live to fight another season — and with Lloyd’s volume echoing through the courts, the rest of the league better be ready.
