Ladies Division 2 – Avenue 2 losing draw v Ventnor 1 (2-2) – Vicki White, Helen Watson, Sarah Long, Nicky Woolhead

Match report

Despite a certain reluctance from the Ventnor ladies to cross the Solent, Captain Vicky personally guaranteed she would hold off the rain and wild weather so they would be able to make it home.

The strong wind meant consistency, accuracy and all round good tennis was a challenge. Sian and Vicky made a solid start , while Helen Watson and Nicky took a while to find their rhythm, despite some “Ace” serving by Nicky. Lidl “Henry Hippos” and a cup of tea between rubbers gave some renewed energy. Helen and Nicky with strong determination scraped a win in a championship tie break. Sian and Vicky couldn’t quite get the better of the Ventnor Ladies 1 pairing. A losing draw the final result. The Ventnor team disappeared off quickly for the ferry. The Avenue Ladies could still be found in the bar eating cake and drinking tea way past 4pm. Helen Watson

Ladies Division 3 – Avenue 3 losing draw v Warsash 2 (2-2) – Julia Baker, Becky Howarth, Lee Harvie-Wood, Zoe Larkin

Match report

A losing draw against Warsash 2 on a misty morning. Some great games against their tough first pair. The return match is next weekend at Warsash where we can try to get the win over them. Well played Becky, Julia, Zoe and Lee. Julia Baker

Mixed Division 1 – Avenue 1 beat Warsash 1 (3-1) – Katie Rowley, Paul Mifsud, Jenny Smith, Joe Hopkins

Match report

Mixed 1 played Alverstoke on Saturday morning, a team of Paul, Katie, Joe and Jenny. Not our usual Mixed 1 pairings but we managed to pull off a win v Alverstoke (away) on some very soggy Astro courts!! Joe and Jenny took on their 1st couple and played a very tight game, losing in the 3rd set tiebreaker. They beat the second pair comfortably in the next round. Paul and Katie  won both their matches, dropping only 2 games each match, so a comfortable 3-1 victory for the Avenue LTC. Katie Rowley

Mens Masters Division 2 – Avenue losing draw v Warsash (2-2) – Rob Mort, Matt Bennett, Ant Spencer, Adrian Drummond

Ladies Division 3 – Avenue beat Fernhurst A (8-0) – Caron Howe, Dawn Wears, Sarah Long, Katherine Arnold

Match report

Caron/Dawn/Katherine/Sarah had an exceptional win against Fernhurst –always our biggest competition. Very windy conditions but then we are used to that being nearer the sea!!  It is going to be a tight finish to the line. Watch this space. Jenny Ward
