Ladies Division 2 – Avenue 2 winning draw v Warsash 2 (2-2) – Helen Watson, Nicky Woolhead, Denise Simper, Sarah Long

Match report

Ladies 2 penultimate match away v Warsash. Avenue Ladies 2 were very happy with a winning draw in their away match v Warsash. Sarah Long and Denise Simper made a convincing start winning their first rubber and carried on with consistent , patient tennis in their second which was a hard fought match decided by a championship tie break. Helen Watson and Nicky Woolhead took a little longer to get into a rhythm. After losing their first match, won the second also on a championship tiebreaker. Good fun, good team, good tennis. Ladies Division 2 – Avenue 3 beat CourtX 2 (3-1) – Alison Clarke, Ruth Berry, Becky Howarth, Jess Paige

Match report

For the second week running the Ladies 3 were up against a team from Court X, this time their second team (the quirks of tennis sees both ladies teams from Court X and Avenue Ladies 2 and 3 in the same division🤪) but this time we were on home turf.  Alison and Ruth had an amazing winning start leaving Court X reeling with a double bagel, while the new pairing of Becky and Jess sadly lost to the first pair 4-6 1-6.  With all to play for in the second rubbers both our pairs came out on top giving us a fabulous 3-1 win. Mixed Division 4 – Avenue 4 lost to Alverstoke 2 (1-3) – Rob Mort, Mary Robinson, Steve Jones, Chloe Treagust (see team photo)

Match report

It was a case of after the flood when Avenue 4 took on an experienced Alverstoke outfit on their home turf. Actually the turf was more quagmire in places after a flood the day before and great efforts had been made to make the courts playable. In a match that was a good deal closer than the 1-3 scoreline would suggest, the standout performance came from Chloe and Steve who beat their second pair and ran the first pair close, losing in a 10pt tiebreak. Mens Division 4 – Avenue B beat Ropley (5-3) – Stew Wiles, Graham Cotterill, Stu Newman, Steve Jones

Match report

Avenue B headed to Ropley on a cold, dark and dank night. The first challenge was to find the courts due to the SATNAV taking us down single track roads for miles. Thankfully the floodlights were on when we arrived as the locality was so dark, we could easily have missed the club. We managed a 5-3 sets win and as we were playing on quick bouncy macadam courts with dodgy lighting this was a good result. Quite the most inhospitable place I have played at. However, it was a good competitive match, good result and good company. Stew Wiles
