National League
Mens Regional SW(E) Division – Avenue lost to David Lloyd Gloucester (1-5) – Ian Udal, Cameron Clarke, David Moakes, Lloyd Sampson
Match report
The Men’s National League (Regional Division) season began with a challenging away fixture for the team, as Ian Udal, Cameron Clarke, David Moakes, and Lloyd Sampson travelled to David Lloyd Gloucester for their opening match. Despite a competitive effort across all rubbers, the team faced a clinical home side and ultimately fell to a 5-1 defeat. The standout performance of the day came from David Moakes, who secured the team’s only point with a victory in his singles match. Having recently committed to a new healthy diet, Moakes displayed exceptional stamina and focus, outworking his opponent to claim a well-deserved win. Although the team did commiserate with an unhealthy MacDonalds on the way home. Ian Udal
Portsmouth & District Winter League
Mens Division 2 – Avenue 2 beat Ventnor 2 (4-0) – Joe Hopkins, David Parvinmehr, Adam Tolmie, Martyn Lawrenson
East Hants Winter League
Mens Division 4 – Avenue B beat Fernhurst B (5-3) – Stew Wiles, Stu Newman, Ant Spencer, Ian Hedges
Match report
We did quite well really in our Winter season campaign. Only lost to Denmead who beat everyone, they were worthy winners. We should have been second but Fernhurst B who we beat last Friday had 2 8-0 walkovers as opponents did not show. They beat us by one point for second place. Useful practice to give Men’s 4 players competition in the Winter. Stew Wiles
Ladies Division 2 – Avenue beat Swanmore B (6-2) – Denise Simper, Sarah Long, Alison Clarke, Dawn Wears
Match report – 2nd Division champions!
Alison/Dawn and Denise/Sarah had a very good win against Swanmore 6 sets to 2, excellent and well played. We needed the 6 points to tie with Newman Collard at the top of the final table. 10 matches played and we ended by winning 57 sets and losing 23, exactly the same as Newman Collard but we did not lose a match and in fact beat them 5-3 twice during the course of the season. We are showing as top of Division 2 but will check with Claire if this means we are in Div 1 next winter!! I am very proud of your efforts and since entering this League in the bottom division we have progressed so well. A great pleasure to be at the helm. Jenny Ward
