Match report

The Ladies Div 2 derby day fixture between Avenue ladies 2 and Avenue ladies 3 drew a larger than normal crowd on the Avenue balcony. Following the pre-start photo shoot for local news, (thank you Gavin) the games began. The first rubbers were tense and close, both going to Championship tie breaks both won by ladies 2, with the spectators stepping in to correct the score when needed.

The next round again involved a championship tie break with the ladies 3 pairing of Becky Howarth and Caroline MacDonald taking the win with a strong finish against Helen Watson and Birthday Girl, Sarah Long. The ladies 2 pairing of Debbie Berry and Nicky Woolhead sealed the match victory for the 2’s in another close, hard fought match against the strong partnership of Lee Harvey Wood and Katy Loh. Great tennis well played everyone. 10/10 to ladies 3 for the match tea. Helen Watson

Ladies Masters Division 2 – Avenue 2 losing draw v Swanmore2 (2-2) – Denise Simper, Sarah Long, Dawn Wears, Katherine Arnold

Mens Masters Division 1 – Avenue 1 beat CourtX (3-1) – Ian Marks, Peter Campbell, Colin Airton, Martin Mallick

East Hants Winter League

Mens Division 4 – Avenue B beat Steep C (7-1) – Dennis Greenwood, Graham Cotterill, Ant Spencer, Olly Ruscombe-King

Our team of Dennis, Graham Anthony & Olly secure us a good start to the season with a convincing 7 sets to 1 and 46 games to 19 win. Stew Wiles

Veterans Division 2 – Avenue lost to Fernhurst A (3-5) – Tina Leighton-Smith, Chris Hill, Stuart Newman, Matt Bennett
