Portsmouth & District League

Ladies Division 2 – Avenue 3 lost to Lee 2 (1-3) – Zoe Larkin, Lee Harvey Wood, Becky Howarth, Anne Treagust

Mixed Division 4 – Avenue 4 lost to Chichester 2 (1-3) – Stew Wiles, Linda Wainwright, Jessica Paige, Rob Mort

Match report

Avenue mixed 4 took on top of the table Chichester 2 in division 4 and got little reward from a very strong first pair. Against their second pair, Stew Wiles deployed all his wily ways in partnership with Linda Wainwright to take a well-earned victory. After a topsy turvy battle against their twos, Rob Mort and Jess Paige went into their deciding play-off with the momentum against them and were just unable to turn it around. Another hard fought and enjoyable encounter but sadly no more points on the board. Adrian Drummond

Mixed Division 4 – Avenue 5 lost to Steep 2 (1-3) – Rob Mort, Linda Barber, Richard Mead, Debbie Barton (see team photo)

Match report

The Mixed 5s match v Steep 2 was enthralling to watch.  A last minute change of team saw Stuart Newman stepping in to cover for Andrew Sabin, who injured himself the day before.  Debbie Barton and Stu had never met before, but played brilliantly together, winning one of the 4 rubbers.  Linda Barber and Richard Mead fought hard but were unable to convert either of their rubbers into a win despite getting to a tie break at the end of one of their sets.  There were some long rallies and nail-biting points and everyone played well with many games going to deuce.  Team mates cheering them on were proud of the way they played against stiff opposition.  The match lasted 4.5 hours. Billie Shamash

Ladies Masters Division 1 – Avenue 1 lost to Ryde Lawn 1 (1-3) – Anna Newman, Gill Clarke, Jenny Smith, Liz Lim

Hants & IOW Seniors League

Mens O55 Division 1 – Avenue A lost to Wellow (1-3) –  Neil Crawford, Peter Campbell, Andy Gilliatt, Ian Marks

Mens O55 Division 3 – Avenue C lost to Avenue B (1-3) – Stew Wiles, Graham Cotterill, Mark Middleton, Robert Haines (Avenue C), Rob Mort, Matt Bennett, Nick Castle, Dennis Greenwood (Avenue B)

Mens O55 Division 3 – Avenue B lost to Lyndhurst (0-4) – Rob Mort, Nick Castle, Dennis Greenwood, Mark Middleton

Mens O55 Division 3 – Avenue C beat Wellow (4-0) – Stew Wiles, Mark Fullstone, Robert Haines, Mike Smith

Match report

We beat Wellow by 8-0 in sets. First win of the season for the O55C team. Well played all. Stew Wiles
