Portsmouth & District Winter League
Ladies Division 4 – Avenue 4 lost to Warsash 3 (1-3) – Sheila Drummond, Chloe Treagust, Ali Thomson, Megan Gibbs
Match report
A very closely contested summer season opener against the ladies of Warsash 3. Unfortunately, it may be a new season, but the age old curse of the championship tiebreak persists! We lost both of them against their first pair, & the eventual result could have been very different if we’d won them…. Sadly today it was not to be, but thanks to everyone who gave their all & so many times the games went to deuce. Well done to Megan & Ali for winning their first rubber in straight sets. We will have to reflect, reset, & refocus & try to use our grass play home advantage later on this summer. But on a beautiful afternoon, surrounded by Avenue supporters, & finished off by a delicious tea, what wasn’t to like! Sheila Drummond
Mixed Division 2 – Avenue 3 losing draw v Steep (2-2) – Anne Treagust, Bailey Rowsell, Katy Loh, Toby Arul-Pragasam
Match report
Losing Draw 2-2 (4-5 Sets, 38-41 games). In fantastic grass court conditions Mixed 3 took on a very strong Steep side. Toby and Katy got off to a flying start by beating Steep’s second pair 6-3 6-0. Then the first long wait started for them while Bailey and I fought hard against the 1st pair. Despite our best efforts and some amazing Bailey serves and shots we came a close second losing 5-7, 6-7. The second rubbers seemed to follow a similar pattern time wise. Having only met on court today, Steep’s 1st pair had found their match play together, and although Katy and Toby put up a great fight, they couldn’t hold them and lost 1-6, 2-6. Back on court 3, Bailey and I were one set down and 1-4 down but kept our heads, remained calm and kept on fighting. The time it took us to win the second set in a tie break and then win the championship tie break the others had finished their refreshments, having given up waiting! A hard earned draw well done team. Anne Treagust
Mens Masters Division 1 – Avenue 1 beat Chichester (3-1) – Ian Marks, George Bentley, Ian Holt, Richard Marston (see team photo)

Hants & IOW Summer League
Mens O55s Division 3 – Avenue 3 drew with Glebian (1-1) – Stewart Wiles, Mark Fullstone, Robert Haines, Graham Cotterill
Match report
Our policy so far this season it seems is to win a rubber in the first round and the keep the opposition playing long enough until the floodlights go off. Well played Robert and Graham for their 2-hour effort to win our rubber. Stew Wiles
