Please find details below of the Club tennis matches played and recorded since last Thursday: –

Portsmouth & District Summer League

Mens Division 3 – Avenue 3 lost to Steep (0-4) – Matt Hotchkiss, George Bentley, Peter Campbell, Bailey Rowsell

Mixed Division 4 – Avenue 4 beat Ryde Lawn 3 (3-1) – Ali Thomson, Steve Jones, Mary Robinson, Ant Spencer

Match report

After weeks of inactivity the day finally dawned. The weather was near perfect – a soft breeze taking the edge off another warm day. The match squad had done their prep and were itching to get stuck in. Yes I know Pompey we’re back in action in the Carabao Cup but I’m talking about mixed 4, whose last match was way back at the beginning of July and were finally back on the baked brown grass of home against Ryde Lawn 3. Steve and Ali, who were paired together for the first time, looked like an established outfit from the off, dropping only 8 games over two victorious rubbers. Over to Mary and Ant. In a tight contest against Ryde’s first pair they edged the first set 7-6, slipped to 4-6 in the second and with the momentum swinging against them they lost the deciding tiebreak. Three outcomes were still possible, 3 for a win, 2 for a winning draw, or 1 from a losing draw. Just to keep up the tension in the battle of the second pairs, Ant and Mary breezed through the first set, breezily dropped the second and another match tiebreak beckoned. This time, though, they were not to be denied clinching the rubber with a 10-7 win, securing a 3-1 match win which maintains our unbeaten record this season and sets up the title decider against Steep 2 in our last game.

Shame about Pompey, but that’s another story. Adrian Drummond

Mixed Division 4 – Avenue 5 losing draw v Lee 3 (2-2) – Tina Leighton-Smith, Mark Fullstone, Sheila Drummond, Stew Wiles

Ladies Masters Division 1 – Avenue 1 beat Warsash 1 (4-0) – Anna Newman, Viola Masona, Jenny Smith, Debbie Berry

Match report

Fantastic result from our ladies masters 1 today. We only dropped 16 games in the sweltering heat against Warsash. Still in the hunt for the title. Potential title decider Tuesday. Well played ladies. Anna Newman

Mens Masters Division 1 – Avenue 1 beat Wellow (4-0) – Peter Campbell, Neil Crawford, Phil Broad, Mark Angell

Hants & IOW Summer League

Mens O55s Division 2 – Avenue 1 beat Lee 1 (6-2) – Peter Campbell, Neil Crawford, Ross MacPherson, Phil Broad
