Portsmouth & District Winter League

Mixed Division 3 – Avenue 3 beat Lee (3-1) – Anne Treagust, Bailey Rowsell, Zoe Larkin, Toby Arul-Pragasam (see match photo)

Match report

With the frost gripping the clay and sun blinding from beyond the grass courts we went into battle against one of our closest rivals. Bailey and I won the first set quickly only to find their second pair digging deep and winning the second. The close run championship tie break stayed fairly level until the last few points which unfortunately went the way of Lee. On the other court, finishing at the same time, Zoe and Toby had beaten a tough married pair to win in straight sets. After swapping notes on the two pairs as is the tradition at the halfway point off we went again.

Bailey and I got off to a good start winning the first set 6-2 only to find ourselves in another championship tie break after losing the second set 3-6. Thankfully this time we came out winners 10-7.

Toby and Zoe played some incredible tennis and long rallies to win the first set 6-1. Lee’s pair came back into the tough second set taking it all the way to 6-6. Our avenue pair kept the pace up in a close set tie break coming out 8-6 to take the match. A 3-1 won for the Avenue Mixed 3. Fantastic result and very well played. Anne Treagust

Ladies Masters Division 1 – Avenue 1 winning draw v Ryde Lawn 1 (2-2) – Jackie Edney, Heather Halliday, Jenny Smith, Viola Masona

Match report

Ladies Masters 1 played away at Ryde this week in sunny, dry conditions! The opposition pushed us but we fought hard to achieve a winning draw overall.  Well done team! Jackie Edney

Ladies Masters Division 2 – Avenue 2 beat Rowlands Castle (3-1) – Sarah Long, Denise Simper, Anne Treagust, Becky Howarth

Match report

Close match but a loss unfortunately despite winning more games! 3-1 in rubbers, 6-3 in sets, 40-42 in games. Mark Fullstone

East Hants Winter League

Ladies Division 2 – Avenue drew with Denmead (4-4) – Alison Clarke, Sarah Long, Katherine Arnold, Dawn Wears

Match report

Alison/Sarah/Dawn/Katherine played last night in freezing conditions against Denmead (total commitment to our squad) thank you.   One of their 1st pair had previously been a County player but we managed 4 sets all and won 33 games to 31. Great start to 2026 well done. Jenny Ward
