The Avenue Lawn Tennis, Squash and Fitness club (the Club) recognises its duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults at risk. The Club is committed to ensuring safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities, government guidance, best practice and LTA and England Squash requirements. The Club’s Safeguarding policy recognises that some children, young people and adults ‘at risk’ including disabled children and young people or those from ethnic minority communities, can be particularly vulnerable to abuse and accepts the responsibility to take reasonable and appropriate steps to ensure their welfare.

This policy aims to ensure that irrespective of a person’s age, gender, ability or disability, race, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, marital or transgender status all those using the Club will:
• Have a positive and enjoyable experience of the activities on offer, in a safe and inclusive environment
• Be protected against abuse whilst participating in Club activities

In order to achieve the objectives above the Club will:
• Promote and prioritise the safety and well-being of all those participating in its activities
• Ensure everyone understands their safeguarding roles and responsibilities and is provided with appropriate learning opportunities to recognise, identify and respond to signs of abuse, neglect and other safeguarding concerns
• Encourage and maintain a culture where people feel able to raise a genuine safeguarding concern and are confident that it will be taken seriously
• Ensure appropriate action is taken in the event of incidents/concerns of abuse and that appropriate support is given to those who raise or disclose such concerns
• Ensure that confidential, detailed and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns are maintained and securely stored
• Prevent the employment/deployment of unsuitable individuals
• Ensure robust safeguarding arrangements and procedures are in operation

The Club’s Safeguarding policy and procedures apply to everyone involved in its activities. Failure to comply with the policy and procedures will be addressed and may result in dismissal/exclusion from the Club.

Whistleblowing
Anyone who is concerned about raising a safeguarding issue with the Club can contact the LTA Safe and inclusive team directly on 020 8487 7000, or, where there is an immediate risk, the Police, the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) or the NSPCC (for concerns about children) on 0808 800 5000. Monitoring
The Club’s Safeguarding policy will be reviewed on a two-yearly basis, or when:
• Changes in legislation and/or government guidance are introduced
• The local Safeguarding Children Board, The Adults Safeguarding Board, the LTA or England Squash require changes
• As a result of any other significant change or event

The Avenue Lawn Tennis, Squash & Fitness Club (the Club) is committed to ensuring that its activities fully support diversity and inclusion and meet the Club’s statutory responsibilities, government guidance, best practice and LTA and England Squash requirements. This policy means that the Club will work actively to ensure that all people regardless of age, gender, ability or disability, race, religion, ethnic origin, creed, colour, nationality, social status or sexual orientation have an equal opportunity to take part in its activities at all levels and in all roles.
Fully supporting diversity and inclusion means making sure that:
• All activities support diversity and inclusion
• Diversity and inclusion are embedded in the Club’s culture and behaviours
• The Club has a culture where inclusive leadership can thrive

 Appeals Procedure

The Avenue Lawn Tennis, Squash and Fitness club Appeals procedure
In cases where the Avenue Lawn Tennis, Squash and Fitness club (the Club) has investigated a complaint or concern and decided to take disciplinary action, the person or persons subject to that disciplinary action may wish to consider an appeal against the decision.
The criteria for an appeal must be that:
• New evidence has become available or
• Due process was not followed in the original investigation
Appeals must be made in writing to the Club Chairman within 14 days of receipt of the notification of intended disciplinary action. There must be a clear justification for the appeal, based on the appeal criteria. This must explain why the appellant believes the outcome of the original investigation was flawed.
Appeals made to the Club Chairman will be managed with appropriate confidentiality and will be acknowledged within 5 working days of receipt. An appeal can only be accepted on the basis that the outcome will be binding on all parties involved.
Upon receipt of an appeal the Club Chairman will:
• Review the appeal and determine whether the appeal criteria have been met. If the Chairman believes the appeal has met the criteria he/she will appoint three Club Committee members (the Appeal Committee), who were not involved in the original decision, so that they can review the matter objectively
Note: When an appeal has been accepted any proposed disciplinary action will be held back until a final decision has been reached.
The Appeal Committee will review the appeal in a closed meeting, together with the Club’s Welfare officer, if the matter relates to safeguarding or diversity and inclusion issues.
After the closed appeal review meeting the Appeal Committee will arrange a review meeting with the person or persons making the appeal and any witnesses, or other persons, they believe appropriate. This review will be carried out within 6 weeks of the appeal being lodged.
Within 14 days of the final review meeting the Appeal Committee will send a written decision to the person or persons making the appeal. The appeal decision will normally either uphold or reject the original decision. In exceptional cases the Appeal Committee may decide to modify the original decision. In such a case the ruling may itself become subject to a further appeal.
