I became a member at the Avenue LTS&FC shortly after my move to Emsworth at the end of 2016. I am a keen tennis player and have always been happy to support the Club. In 2018 I was elected as Assistant Treasurer and when the post of Honorary Secretary became available in the summer, I agreed to take it on. My background in environmental health policy and practice allows me to give expert advice to the Club on risk and risk management.

The role of Honorary Secretary involves:

  • Overseeing the work of the Office manager and Office staff
  • Supporting the work of the Office e.g. through production of policies and risk assessments
  • Liaising with Havant Council and similar bodies on Club matters, where necessary
  • Working with the Management Committee to provide for the smooth running of the Club and to identify opportunities for future improvement

As your Club Treasurer, co-opted in September 2017, my primary responsibility is to safeguard the Club assets, manage its liabilities and ensure proper financial controls and budgets are in place over the collection of revenues and the paying out of costs and overheads.

I have been an active tennis playing member at the Avenue for over 20 years having previously played at Birkdale, Putney and Ealing LTC’s.

I moved to Southleigh Road in 1983 and joined the club after a year or so. I soon became involved helping with events when we held annual international tournaments and members hosted visiting players.
After a few years I left due to working commitments and rejoined about ten years ago and was invited to join the House, Bar, Social Committee. Over the years I have organised a variety of different functions to raise funds for the club and offer some enjoyable parties for members. For example we have had Christmas Dinner dances with disco or live music, Caribbean Parties, Quiz Nights, fancy dress parties, a Hallowe’en Party, Exhibition dancing evenings, James Bond Evening. I have provided food for many occasions and still do for Quiz evenings and other small events.
